We have been informed that the school communities are recruiting newmembers. I am attracted by one of their posters: English reading.

Studentsnowadays are spending toomuch time doing written exercises, so they really need to do some readingfor pleasure instead of only good marks. It isnecessary for us to spend some time reading some news covering different fieldsin society. This will keep us informed of whatis going on outside of the school so that we may not only enrichour knowledge but also further develop our interest in English. Anotherbenefit is that it will help us learn more aboutEnglish in current use. For example,it was by reading economy reportsthat I picked up terms like “refund, currency, VC (venture capital)”.Thus we can enlarge our vocabulary and deepen our understanding of the uses ofgrammar and words.

Also I have some proposals forthis activity. One is thatthe class be broken into several groups, each responsible for a few passages.We may have each group write a summary of the article assigned to them, orprepare four to five questions, or even do a presentation in class in their favoriteway.

I am sure that,if well organized and well done,this activity will be an effective supplement to our English studies. （222 words）
