It had taken almost ten years of blood, sweat, and tears for Andrew to finally get his restaurant up and running. His restaurant had been open for three years. All was going well for Andrew. However, things would soon take an unexpected turn for Andrew after a new restaurant, Le Cafe, opened across the street.

Andrew began to lose customers to his new competitor. The more time progressed, the fewer customers Andrew had. After a while, Andrew was forced to make salary（工资） cuts. This was the tipping point for Andrew as his staff began to leave him. One day, one of Andrew's waiters, Danny, decided to quit after receiving an offer from Le Cafe. Andrew begged him to stay, but he was hearing none of it.

Alegra, a homeless young woman, stopped picking through a nearby rubbish can and watched from a distance as Andrew and Danny had a dispute（争吵）.

"Excuse me, sir," Alegra said." Oh, no. I don't want any money from you. I just couldn't help but overhear your conversation. I would love to help, if possible," Alegra explained.

"Look, that’s nice of you, but-"Andrew started before Alegra cut in. "You won't have to pay me, sir. All I ask for is a little food to get by," Alegra said. So Andrew got Alegra cleaned up and put her to work. Unlike Andrew's other employees, she never complained. Alegra did everything perfectly.

Things were still stressful for Andrew as they continued to lose customers to Andrew's competitor. To make matters worse, he eventually fell ill at work and was taken to the hospital.

Even in Andrew's absence, Alegra continued with enthusiasm(热情）. Unfortunately, things kept turning for the worst at the restaurant when more staff didn't come to work. The head chef, seeing that he was working with Alegra, who was living in the streets, also threw in the towel (放弃努力）.

After a while, Andrew finally got out of the hospital. He went straight to the restaurant to see what he could salvage (抢救）before he ultimately had to close it down.

As he drove down the street toward his restaurant, he could not believe what he saw. He saw customers dining in the restaurant just like back in the day. He had expected it to be closed, considering what Alegra had told him when she visited him in the hospital several weeks before. He looked around for the staff, but there was none. Andrew immediately parked his car and rushed into the restaurant with excitement and curiosity. As he entered the restaurant, he noticed the customers were all eating dishes that weren't on his menu.

“Sir, you’re back!” Alegra shouted, rushing out of the kitchen with two plates in her hands. Alegra explained that she pulled out some of her mother’s old recipes and spent the last couple of days cooking. Andrew was almost in tears. He didn’t know how he could thank Alegra for saving his restaurant. After that day, Andrew and Alegra worked back to back, trying to keep the restaurant going. Alegra cooked while Andrew served the guests. Customers loved Alegra’s dishes, and soon, the restaurant became famous city-wide and eventually nationwide. Alegra became Andrew’s head chef.
