ZHUHAI – The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge enters the history of human engineering and connection as a point of pride upon its opening开通 to traffic at 9 am Wednesday. 

One day after President Xi Jinping announced its opening at a ceremony [ˈserəmoʊni] 仪式held in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, the bridge's ports in three different administrative [ədˈmɪnɪstreɪtɪv] 管理的regions ['ri:dʒənz] 地区started serving travelers around-the-clock全天候, opening 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

To ensure faster boundary [ˈbaʊndri] 分界线crossings for passengers, the Macao and Zhuhai ports jointly [dʒɔɪntlɪ] 共同地 use a one-off 一次性 immigration [ˌɪmɪˈɡreɪʃn]移民 clearance mode模式, allowing travelers to queue up 排队等候 only once to finish both exit 离开and entry 进入procedures [prə'sidʒəz]程序 of the two cities in about 30 seconds 秒.

Shuttle buses only provide service between the ports of Hong Kong and Zhuhai, and between Hong Kong and Macao, without crossing any boundaries. The frequency is about 5-10 minutes during peak [pi:k] 达到高峰hours.

Advance online ticket booking预定for the shuttle bus has been available since 9 am on Tuesday.

With the bridge now in service, the traveling time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong International Airport will be shortened 缩短from four hours to 45 minutes, and the time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong's Container 集装箱 Terminals 终点站will be cut from 3.5 hours to 75 minutes.
