【模拟训练参考作文7】Hard Life Is Good for Children

An English proverb goes like this, “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” It implies that in order to enable a child to grow healthily, parents must make him eat bitter foods, do hard work and be sent to places where he can get the fullest training and knowledge.

First of all, eating bitter foods is necessary for a child. Poor food can help cultivate in him the frugal(节俭的)habit and make him realize what we eat daily is the fruit of the sweat of the laboring people. Consequently, he will not be wasteful when he grows up. Secondly, parents should also make the child do hard work. Doing hard work will give him an opportunity to taste the bitterness of labor. Moreover, hard work may also enable him to cherish the fruit of others’ labor. Finally, children should be sent to somewhere where life is hard if possible. Human society is full of tests and trials. Flowers from a greenhouse can never withstand a storm. Therefore, children should be allowed to face the world and brave the storm. It is in difficult conditions that young people can get the most training and learn how to solve problems in various circumstances.

If parents can follow the three points discussed above, they will make it possible for their child to make a successful living and great accomplishments in his life.

【模拟训练参考作文8】Where to Live—in the City or in the Country

Many people maintain that living in big cities is superior to living in the country. Living in big cities has many advantages. First, there are more chances of employment. There is a greater range of jobs and the pay is usually higher. That is why many people flock to big cities from rural areas in order to make money.

Living standards are higher. Second, there are many schools and universities, which enables people to have more opportunities of receiving better education. Third, people have more chances to achieve success in their career due to favorable working conditions. Furthermore public facilities such as theaters, concerts,

movies, entertaining places and so on can help people fully enjoy themselves in their spare time. Besides, medical service is convenient.

A wilful fault has no excuse and deserves no pardon.不能宽恕故意犯下的错误。

Country life, however, has attractions of its own. People are close to nature. They can enjoy a quiet and gentle peace of life, which is extremely favorable for their health. Working in fields is much better than doing physical exercise. In addition, most villagers are familiar with each other.

As everything has two sides, both big cities and rural areas have their disadvantages. Citydwellers suffer from air and noise pollution, crowded buses, traffic jams, or poor housing conditions. Country dwellers may have difficulty in doing shopping, sending their children to good schools, and getting medical help. As far as I am concerned, I prefer to live in the country where I can breathe fresh air and enjoy the idyllic landscapes, far away from the noises in big cities.

  Active Classes or Passive Classes

It is obvious that the differences between passive classes and active classes are enormous though classes often seem outwardly alike.

The passive kind of class, or duckstuffing method, usually has a teacher who lectures, puts outlines and terms on the chalkboard and dispenses information to the students. For instance, my philosophy teacher, Miss. Hong, rarely looked up from her notebook in which she had carefully written all her lectures. Teacher

s in a passive classroom simply dictate information and answers. They pour facts into the students like pouring water into a sieve. The students are usually forced to sit, listen, take notes, and do only what the teacher has required.

The other kind of class, the active kind, usually has a teacher who stimulates the students to learn for themselves by asking questions, by posing problems, and most of all by being a student, too. Such a teacher might plan the outline of a course, but doesn’t force the class in only one direction. Students in active classes become more involved in their learning; they ask questions about why and read books to search for some answers themselves, then discuss what they have found in class.

I prefer active classes because learning becomes fun. Although students may not much care about facts in classes, their attitudes toward learning and their excitement in developing answers for themselves don’t end with the class.
