  【模拟训练参考作文13】On the Importance of Selfconfidence

Selfconfidence means trust in one’s own ability. It is believed to be the To err is human; to forgive, divine.犯错人皆难免;宽恕则属超凡。

first secret of success. Before you start to do anything, you must believe that you can do it well with your earnest effort. Selfconfidence gives you light when you are in dark and encouragement when you are dismayed. If one lacks confidence in himself, there is little possibility that he may achieve anything especially when one is in face of difficulties.

Why do people feel frustrated when they are capable of doing something? The reasons for that are, first of all they overestimate difficulties, thinking that their difficulties are too great to overcome. Second, they underestimate their abilities. This is an incorrect attitude toward oneself. Finally, they are afr aid of making mistakes or getting failures.

It is possible to build up faith in oneself by having the right attitude toward one’s own ability. It is selfconfidence, rather than genius and extraordinary ability, that inspires you to cope with any arduous task. We should never despise ourselves. As the proverb goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way,”

we can reach our goal with our constant and patient efforts, for “Confidence is a plant of slow growth.” Remember that “Confidence in yourself is the first step on the road to success.”

  【模拟训练参考作文14】Dictionary

The dictionary is a living teacher. Whenever we encounter a new word, we just turn to it for help, and we can get all the necessary information about it such as the definition, pronunciation, usage and even origin. For learners of English, it is an indispensable aid, and should accompany you all the time. As a reference book, it is convenient, inexpensive and almost omniscient.

Dictionaries are of many kinds. For us English learners, the dictionaries we often consult are EnglishEnglish dictionary, ChineseEnglish dictionary, EnglishChinese dictionary, and some other dictionaries for specific purposes. Language skills will develop with your constant use of various dictionaries. The more we use them, the more familiar we will become with them. Sooner or later, we will be

quite skilled in finding the page, scanning the entries and locating the exact word we are searching. By consulting dictionaries frequently, we can expect to familiarize ourselves with words, and consequently enlarge our vocabulary. What is more, it helps us learn to use words or expressions.

However, we should not keep one thing in mind. As English majors, we cannot become so much dependent on dictionaries; basic language skills do not come from dictionaries but from practice, namely, English in use. So we have to expose ourselves to the language by listening, speaking, reading and writing more, and that is the only way to the mastery of the English language.

  【模拟训练参考作文15】No Pains, No Gains

The proverb, “No pains, no gains,” means that you have to make great efforts if you want to achieve some success, for nothing but poverty can be obtained without effort.

In history, there have been many famous people of great achievements. You may claim that they are geniuses. But behind their successes, they have made great efforts in carrying out their tasks. Einstein said, “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninetynine percent perspiration.” He had been working hard for many years before he finally worked out his theory of relativity. Thomas Edison experienced countless failures before he finally invented the electric bulb. Wang Junxia was able to win the world championship of long distance race only because she had many years of hard training. Therefore, diligence is the key to success. Doubtless hard work promises fruitful result. Everyone is awarded the right to work hard in order to reach his goal. Apparently, diligence is indispensable to success. Happiness is nearly always a reward for hard work.

On the other hand, idleness is believed to be the root of all evil. Anyone who habitually likes idling but desires everything is daydreaming. We should be aware that if we dream away our precious time, when we wake up, it may be too late for us to achieve anything. So, as college students, we should never stop working hard so that we will remain successful in the future competitions.
